Our Classes
For complete newcomers
Never touched a mah jongg tile? You're in exactly the right place. We start from scratch — learning the tiles, understanding the card, building your first hands, and celebrating your very first win. Schedule a private lesson to learn on your own, or bring some friends and learn together!
For students who know the basics
You've had a lesson or two and you're ready to play — but a full competitive game still feels daunting. Novice Play is a relaxed, low-pressure session where new players practice together at their own pace.
For players ready to join the community
You know the game — now come play it with a wonderful group of people. Our regular Group Play sessions are the heart of Buttercup Mahj: warm, social, and full of laughter. All skill levels welcome.
Mah Jongg for young players
Mah Jongg isn't just for grown-ups! Kids Mahj is a fun, age-appropriate introduction to the game for children ages 7 and up. We keep it playful, patient, and full of encouragement — because the best time to fall in love with this game is early.
Private Events
Bring the fun to your home or office! Buttercup Mahj will arrive with everything needed for a beautiful, ready-to-play tablescape — tiles, racks, and playing cards all included. You just provide the table and chairs.
Your instructor will guide play the entire time, making it perfect for guests of all experience levels. And the best part? The host or hostess plays for free.
Buttercup Mahj can accommodate parties of 4 up to 40 players — perfect for birthdays, bridal showers, corporate events, girls' nights, and more.

Questions
Nope — just yourself! We provide tiles, cards, and all materials. You're welcome to bring a notebook if you like to take notes.
Beginner lessons are kept small — typically 4 to 8 students — so everyone gets personal attention and plenty of time to ask questions.
We provide cards during class. Once you're ready to play regularly, we recommend getting your own — we'll show you exactly where to order it.
Most students feel ready after 2–3 beginner lessons. There's no rush — you move at your own pace, and we'll let you know when you're ready.
Everything is pay-per-session — no membership required. We also offer session bundles at a small discount if you'd like to commit to a series.
Sign up for your first lesson and we'll take care of everything else. No experience, no equipment, no worries.
